What if caring for someone you love didn’t have to feel so overwhelming… and you didn’t have to do it alone?
I’m Lisa Kimmitt - Founder, Carer Advocate and Dementia Doula behind The Carers Project.
My journey began not as a professional, but as a daughter. Supporting my mum through Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia opened my eyes to the reality so many families face - the exhaustion, the confusion, the emotional weight, and the constant question of “what do we do next?”
I experienced the sleepless nights, the system overwhelm, the moments of deep connection… and the moments that felt incredibly hard to hold.
And I also discovered something just as important. Even in the midst of it all, there can still be dignity, warmth and meaningful moments.
That belief now sits at the heart of everything I do.
Outside of my work, you’ll often find me doing the things that keep me grounded and well - walking along the beach, spending time with my family and grandchildren, practising meditation and mindfulness, attending Clinical Pilates, reading and continuing to learn, and exploring new places through travel. These aren’t just hobbies, they’re a reflection of what I truly believe in.
That care starts with us too.
Why I Created The Carers Project
The Carers Project was created to be the support I wish I had - a place where carers and families feel seen, supported, guided and less alone.
Outside of my work, I stay grounded through the simple things that keep me well, and that same belief carries into how I support others. I walk alongside you not just with information, but with understanding, compassion and practical guidance, helping you navigate aged care systems, reduce overwhelm and feel more confident in the decisions ahead.
Because most families don’t struggle with care itself - they struggle with knowing what to do next.

This isn’t clinical. This isn’t transactional. This is human support, grounded in lived experience and professional guidance.
I bridge the gap between families and the systems around them - bringing calm, clarity and connection into what can otherwise feel like chaos.
Whether it’s early signs of change, navigating a diagnosis, or walking through later stages of care, I’m here to support both the person and the carer - every step of the way.
Over a decade of supporting my mum through Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia shaped the heart of my work.
